Gary Charles Worden
March 18, 1947 – December 9, 2024
Gary Charles Worden, 77, of Milton peacefully left this earth on December 9, 2024 surrounded by his family. He was born on March 18, 1947 in Orlando, FL to Minnie Lee and George Charles Worden.
Gary was a Vietnam Veteran where he served as a combat medic from 1968-1974. After the military, he became an over the road truck driver, a profession he loved and did for over 40 years. While driving for Landstar, he received his million miles without a safety incident, in under 8 years. Gary hauled some very important loads including the tow bar to Air Force One, one of the engines to the Space Shuttle, the parts that became Space Mountain at Disney and even the hull of the National Airlines Flight 193 that crashed into the Pensacola Bay in 1978.
Gary loved stock car racing. He raced at Southern Raceway, and his second time ever on the track he won both of his races, going on to win several through his racing career.
In retirement, Gary loved being a Papaw to all the Grandbabies.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Minnie Lee Price Worden; his father, George Worden; his brother, Ronald Worden; his sister, Patti Hales; and his niece, Wendi Hales.
Gary leaves behind his long time soulmate, Libby Smith; his oldest brother, Raymond Worden; his son and daughter-in-law, Dwayne and Rita Worden; his daughter and son-in-law, Deana and Tony Nordhoff; his bonus daughter, Jennifer Scribner; his beloved grandchildren: Cassie Mauldin, Sonia Webb, Gregory Johnson, Jonathon Worden, Cameron Hall, and Caleb Grant; his prized great-grandchildren: Lexi, Emalynn, Ari, Aubri, Alaina, Cullen, and Desmond.
Memorial graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on December 27, 2024 at Barrancas National Cemetery.
