Gavin Adkins Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Vincent Funeral Home - Providence Forge on Dec. 30, 2025.
Gavin Awessew Adkins passed away on Sunday, December 21st in a truck accident less than a mile from his home in Providence Forge, Virginia. He leaves behind his parents Matthew & Judy Adkins, his sister, Megan, his brother, Cameron, his maternal grandparents, Randy & Nancy Kelley, his paternal grandparents, Joseph Lester Adkins & Delois Jones Adkins. He is also survived by his aunts, Tasha Berg, Karen Barker, Beth Locklear and Sheri Adams, and his uncle, Tracy Berg, as well as several cousins and close friends.

Gavin was a member of the Chickahominy Indian Tribe - Eastern Division in New Kent County and his father, Matthew, is the Assistant Chief of that tribe. His name had significance to his parents, and it held meaning in the Native community. The name 'Gavin' meant 'God send' or 'white hawk.' His middle name, Awessew, means 'he goes out of view or flies quickly.' Though he is no longer with us on Earth, we find comfort in believing he will one day soar above us watching over us from Heaven.

Those who knew Gavin will always remember his contagious smile, unexpected laughter, kindness, forgiving spirit and generous nature. He would have given anyone anything he could have if it helped them or made their life easier somehow. He truly just wanted everyone to get along with each other, take care of one another and live life to its fullest.

There wasn't an animal or person that Gavin didn't love. Early in his life, he had many pets, including fish, geckos, parakeets, cats and his favorite dogs, Scout and Jasmin. He liked trains and remote-controlled cars. He also liked playing video games. He was a Boy Scout who loved learning and spending time outdoors.

Later in life, Gavin loved working on dirt bikes and ATVs. He loved riding ATVs with his friends, especially through the mud. He loved dancing and music, mostly rap music. He loved bonfires, the outdoors, his truck and food of all kinds! But, most of all, he loved his family. It brings us comfort to know he is at peace, and he no longer has to know pain or suffering. May he Rest in Eternal Peace.

Please join our family in remembering Gavin on Sunday, January 4, 2026, from 2PM-4PM at Vincent Funeral Home, 9923 Pocahontas Trail, Providence Forge, VA 23140. A Memorial Service where family and friends can share memories will begin at 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, letters or cards of condolence may be mailed to Matthew & Judy Adkins at PO Box 247, Providence Forge, VA 23140. Please continue to pray for peace and comfort for those he leaves behind.
