Obituary of Gavin Goorjian
Gavin Jacob Goorjian entered this world on October 14, 1983. He immediately captured everyone's heart with his beautiful smile, flirty long eyelashes, and chocolate brown eyes, a window into his old soul.
Gavin came from a long line of love. His Peccole, Lamb, and Goorjian family roots instilled in him the essential values of family, devotion, and respect for others. Gavin lived those values throughout his life, not only through his words but through his actions.
Basketball was always a huge part of Gavin's life and under his father's coaching, he excelled at basketball as a guard at The Meadows School. A born athlete, Gavin also contributed to winning four state football championships as a defensive back and a receiver. Additionally, Gavin thrived in the classroom. He had a passion for learning history, literature, journalism, and, of course, government.
In 2002, Gavin graduated from The Meadows School and furthered his education first at UCSB in Santa Barbara and then returned home to Las Vegas to attend UNLV. While at UNLV, Gavin was able to cheer on his favorite team: the Running Rebels. His grandfather coached the Running Rebels to a national championship and his father played as a point guard. These family ties prompted Gavin's fierce loyalty to the Rebel program.
His passion for politics and current events started young. At 10 years old, Gavin's breakfast would have been incomplete without his daily reading of the newspaper. It was from these early life experiences that Gavin developed his strong desire to champion many causes, such as fighting for human rights and for the less fortunate. While at UNLV, Dr. Dina Titus helped further Gavin's passion for politics both in and out of the classroom, as he also eventually worked on Dr. Titus' later campaigns for congress (which she won, due in no small part to the tireless work of Gavin and so many, many others!).
During the Obama years, when Gavin wasn't watching endless amounts of MSNBC or debating politics with anyone who'd listen (willingly or not...), Gavin continued to campaign tirelessly for the candidates and causes he believed in. While the examples are countless, Gavin was perhaps most excited about his work as an Obama Fellow, which connected him to activists around the country. Eventually, he even had campaign volunteers stay at his home, so they could help Obama's efforts in Nevada.
Philanthropy, instilled in Gavin from his Nonna, was also near and dear to him. His giving nature helped many people and organizations in Las Vegas, and around the world. For example, serving on the board of the LGBTQ Center of Southern Nevada, allowed him and his fellow board members to positively impact the lives of so many in our community. If you were to ask anyone what attribute best describes Gavin, all would surely answer with generosity.
His grandfather's legacy, the Peccole Nevada Corporation, planted the seed of Gavin's interest in real estate. From his work in the family business, Gavin was moved to start his own real estate company. His company provided him with an immense sense of fulfillment and satisfaction.
Gavin met the love of his life, Jason Baca, and they were married on February 14th, 2018, in Melbourne, Australia. Gavin and Jason created a beautiful life together alongside their precious pups. From concerts, to restaurants, to sporting events, Gavin and Jason were truly a team. Their zeal for history and travel led them to traversing the world and to exploring beautiful, amazing locations. While those experiences were special, nothing was as important to them as sharing those experiences with family and friends.
Gavin's energy was magnetic, creating countless lifelong relationships. Undoubtedly, this was an attribute that Gavin inherited from his mother. Nearly everyone he met would describe Gavin as their best friend. His brilliant mind, generous heart, and compassionate demeanor endeared him to the souls he encountered throughout his short, but incredibly meaningful, thirty-eight years. Simply put, that was Gavin's modus operandi: family, friends, and fun.
Gavin is survived by his husband Jason Goorjian, grandfather Ed Goorjian, father Greg Goorjian, "bonus" mother Patty Goorjian, brothers Camden and Colin Goorjian and extended Bayne, Goorjian, Lamb, Miller, and Peccole families.
Gavin joins in heaven his mother Leann Peccole, grandparents Bill and Wanda Peccole, grandmother Joyce Goorjian, uncle Larry Miller, and cousin Robby Bayne.

Dear Goorjian family, I am so sorry for the losses you've faced recently. Reading about Gavin you must be so proud of him. My heart breaks for you. Coach G was such a mentor to me. I talked to him last at Thanksgiving I believe. I just found out about his passing over weekend. I am praying for you all. todd malecki
