Gavin L. Schlarmann, 21, of Highland, IL, passed away on Thursday, August 21, 2025, at HSHS St. Joseph Hospital in Highland, IL.
He was born on June 28, 2004, in St. Louis, MO, to Carl and Kay (nee Wuest) Schlarmann.
Gavin was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church in Breese, IL, the Highland IAFF Local 3672, and the AFFI. A selfless, hardworking young man, Gavin loved and served his community as a Firefighter for the Highland Fire Department and as a full time EMT for Highland EMS. He formerly worked at Rick's Ace Hardware in Highland helping everyone find any of their hardware needs. He enjoyed helping people, playing video games, riding his motorcycle, and hanging out with his friends having bonfires. He was very involved in band throughout school and became a percussion instructor at Staunton High School.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Wil Schlarmann, in infancy; paternal grandfather, Bernard Schlarmann; and paternal grandparents, Marie (Corky) Kleber.
Gavin is survived by his parents, Carl and Kay Schlarmann, Highland, IL; maternal grandparents, Laurell “Corky” and MaryJo Wuest, Breese, IL; sister, Katelyn (fiancé, David Newton) Montgomery, North Glenn, CO; twin brother, Garrett Schlarmann, Highland, IL; sister, Lola Schlarmann, Highland, IL; many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Memorial donations may be made to the Highland Fire Department or the Highland High School Band Program.
Visitation: Tuesday, August 26, 2025, from 4:00 to 8:00 pm, at Meridith Funeral Home, Highland, IL, and Wednesday, August 27, 2025, from 9:00 to 11:00 am, at St. Dominic Catholic Church, Breese, IL
Mass of Christian Burial: Wednesday, August 27, 2025, 11:00 am, at St. Dominic Catholic Church, Breese, IL
