Ingram Funeral HomeGayle Flickinger Young, 89, of Cumming, Georgia passed away on Thursday, November 20, 2025, after a long battle with dementia. Gayle was born on January 24,1936 in Apollo, Pennsylvania to parents Loretta and Robert Flickinger. She grew up in Canton, Ohio, and was the youngest of three children. Gayle was preceded in death by her parents Loretta and Robert Flickinger and brothers Robert J. Flickinger and David W. Flickinger.
Gayle graduated from Lehman High School in Canton in 1954. She married Frederick Allen Young on May 27,1956 and the two moved to Atlanta, Georgia. They subsequently had three children – a daughter and two sons. While their children were growing up, they lived in the Dunwoody, Georgia area where they attended Dunwoody United Methodist Church, and then, Roswell, Georgia, where they attended Roswell United Methodist Church. Gayle’s life was marked by love for her family and faith. She was a wonderful homemaker, cook, baker, and seamstress. Gayle enjoyed entertaining, especially during the holidays and volunteering her cooking and baking skills for church and school functions. She also adored her four grandchildren and loved spending time with them and attending their activities, as much as possible.
Survivors include her husband, Frederick A. Young, and children, Reba Young Halleck (Don), F. Scott Young (Michaela) and David C. Young (Kim), as well as her grandchildren, Elaine Halleck Harkins (Jesse), D. Christopher Young, Sarah Margaret Young and J. Braxton Young.
A funeral service will be held on December 13, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Lanier United Methodist Church, located at 1979 Buford Highway, Cumming, Georgia 30041. A private interment will be held at a later date at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia.
