Gene Dahse Obituary
Gene Arthur Dahse was born in Shawano, Wisconsin on September 8, 1934 to parents, Arthur Robert Dahse and Irma Frieda Lena Hangartner Dahse. He graduated high school from Shawano High School. On June 20, 1964, he married his wife, Sharon Renee Fruchting Dahse, of 56 years in Miami Springs, Florida. Their first child was a son, William Eric Dahse, born May 8, 1969 and in August 1972, they had a daughter, Kimberly Ann Dahse McDougall.
He worked for Eastern Airlines in Miami, Florida as a planner and then as a stock clerk and also became the union shop steward. He worked from the 1960s until 1989 when Eastern Airlines went out of business. In 1995, he went to Destin, Florida then to Freeport, Florida then to Summerfield, North Carolina and then back to Florida in 2012 to settle in Miramar Beach, Florida.
Gene is survived by his son, William Eric Dahse and daughter, Kimberly Ann Dahse McDougall; as well as a brother, Robert Arthur Dahse and a sister, Mary Beth Dahse Luke; and let's not forget his favorite Persian Kitty Cat, "Bunny/ Porsche".
He had a love for life which included scuba diving. He was a Naui and Padi certified diver. He also was a pilot of Private Pilot FAA. He enjoyed spearfishing, tropical fish collecting and lobstering in the Keys. He was a lifeguard in the early 1970s at Haulover Beach in Miami station 2-07, and also a police officer in Miami, Florida. He received a degree in criminology from Miami-Dade Community College. He served with the United States Air Force and also the Navy as a Navy corpsman medic around 1951 to 1958. He loved building houses in his spare time in the Florida Keys, mainly Big Pine Key and Cudjoe Key, as well as in Clark, Colorado Helen, Georgia and Defuniak Springs, Florida.
Gene will be remembered for being a great father and husband and always providing for his family. In the end, he was so loving and his son, Eric, was his caregiver under the final days with help from hospice care and White Wilson Medical. Gene battled dementia for the last year of his life, which was a horrible disease in which to watch him deteriorate before your eyes.
He was a Master Mason in Miami Springs, Florida at Lodge #703. In the later years, he loved carving ducks decoys. For many years, Gene loved to eat out and always got extra dressing and sweet tea. His stent in the military included training at San Diego and also Dennison, Texas.
He liked to be called "Mean Gene", but he didn't have a mean bone in his body. He was an avid bodybuilder his entire life. For 89 years he accomplished a lot in life... loved trout fishing, elk/deer hunting, snowmobiling, skiing, and also learned to play the guitar. He was a guy that picked up a lot of dinner bills.... always very generous, just an all around great father and husband.
May God rest his soul for entirety..... One of his last building projects was with his son on his son's dock; he enjoyed helping and showing what he had learned throughout the years and was so proud of his son. During his years with Eastern Airlines, he and his wife traveled to Germany, Portugal, Italy, Rome, Spain, Switzerland, England, France, Russia, Poland, Norway, Sweden and Croatia.
He will be greatly missed....I love you Dad.... your little diving buddy...
