Gene became a friend many years ago since we both were involved in the insurance industry and lived no more than 15 miles from each other. We extended that friendship further serving together on the Big I Ohio insurance board. Gene was always a person I could rely on if I had a difficult issue and we shared freely not as competitors but friends. Gene you were ethical and caring just to name a couple of your very positive traits. Hard to lose a friend like Gene. I pray for family in this difficult time.

I had the pleasure of meeting Gene many years ago when he and John Roby were involved with the IIAAO. Gene was the epitome of a gentleman and a tribute to his industy.

I am very sorry to learn of Gene´s passing. I first got to know Gene in second grade at Brinkerhoff Elementary School. We did many sleepovers at each other´s home and always talked sports. Our friendship continued through Johnny Appleseed Junior High and Senior High.

Gene was an outgoing person, very positive, very kind, very generous, and always willing to extend himself to others and to organizations he cared about. He gave of himself freely, always had a good joke, and a laugh. He always focused on the good in others and helped his classmates to be our best. What a loss to the MHS Class of `65! Go TY-Tygers!

Please accept my condolences and know that Gene and you are in my prayers.

Love, John Hoeffler, MHS Class of 1965

My first day teaching at Johnny Appleseed Junior High, Gene came up to me and asked if I would like to help coach the football team. That started a 54 year friendship. Gene always had time to talk about sports, work and of course family. I will miss all those special times we would get together just to talk about the old times coaching, playing softball and loving life. PS: The football team that first year went undefeated!
