Gene Bridgers Wilson, 87, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 21, 2024 at her home. She was born on February 5, 1937 in Augusta, Georgia to the late Charles Fulmer Bridgers, Sr. and Caroline Duncan Winter Bridgers and was the wife of 48 years to the late John Foshee Wilson.
Genie graduated from Hephzibah High School (Hephzibah, GA) and Rider College in Lawrence, NJ. She was a homemaker who was very involved with her children in their school and sport activities. Genie enjoyed painting, arts and crafts, being outdoors watching the birds and fishing with her family. She loved her birds (Hootie and Merlin) and all of her other animals she had through the years, and her beloved dog Duncan. Genie was a member of Front Street United Methodist Church where she formerly sang in the choir with her husband John.
She is survived by her son, Scott Bridgers Wilson; a daughter, Nancy Elaine Wilson-Smith and husband Jeff and several nieces and nephews. Genie was preceded in death by her husband, John; parents, Charles and Caroline Bridgers and a brother, Charles “Buster” Bridgers, Jr.
The funeral service to celebrate the life of Genie will be held at 1:00pm Thursday, September 26, 2024 at Front Street United Methodist Church by Rev. Ray Warren with the burial to follow in Magnolia Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7pm Wednesday at Lowe Funeral Home & Crematory.
