Gene V. Meyers of Westerville, Ohio passed away unexpectedly on Friday, March 21, 2025. He recently celebrated his 89th birthday last month.
Gene was born and raised in the South End of Toledo, Ohio and was a graduate of Toledo Macomber High School (The Macmen), and then attended The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio.
He was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force, and later the Ohio Air National Guard, 112th Fighter Squadron unit in Swanton, Ohio. He received a commendation during his activation due to the Berlin crisis in 1961. Professionally, Gene held senior leadership positions in distribution/logistics with Dart Industries, Maryland Cup Corporation, Xerox Education Publication, and RAL Automotive.
Family, faith, and tradition would best characterize his years, with love and pride for his children, grandchildren, and recently great-grandchildren. He had strong Catholic faith rooted from his family upbringing and highly supportive of a Catholic education. Gene was an avid aviation and automobile enthusiast and looked forward to going to the Detroit North American International Auto Show, Supplier Day for many years. A 'Woody Hayes' disciple, Gene was a huge fan of Ohio State Football; the Detroit professional sports teams; and, attendance at Columbus St. Francis DeSales High School football games. Lastly, he enjoyed the solitude of reading and smoking his pipe on the deck overlooking the ravine in his backyard.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Harold E. and Elizabeth M. Meyers. He is survived by his three children, Kathy (Pat) Belzer, Kevin (Anne) Meyers, Kelly Spenny; his grandchildren, Devin (Andrea) Spenny, Katie (Brandon) Kready, Alex Spenny, Colleen (Michael) Olson; and great-grandchildren, Jack Kready and June Spenny.
Funeral service will be held on Friday, March 28, 2025 at Moreland Funeral Home, 55 East Schrock Road, Westerville, Ohio, with visitation from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, and prayer service from 11:00 AM to Noon. Interment at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery, Lewis Center, Ohio following services.
