Gene "Slider" Scott
Gene Christopher Scott, age 100 ¾, passed away peacefully on September 11, 2022, with his children by his side. Only fitting he picked 9/11 so no one forgets him.
Gene was independent until the end!
Born on January 5, 1922 in Minneapolis, MN to Dave Lowenthal and Billie DeHaan. They moved to Grand Rapids, MI where he was raised. He was a curious person who loved life.
Gene enlisted in the Army after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. He spent his basic training in Hawaii and ended up fighting combat in the Pacific. He was awarded a Purple Heart. After the war, he met his wife Virginia working at General Motors and the two married. He helped raise her 3 children and they also had 2 more children together. He loved his kids and was always there for them. Gene and Virginia moved to Mequon in 1963.
Gene sold office equipment: typewriters, copy machines, etc., with a brief time at the United States Post Office. Upon retirement, to prevent himself from being bored, he worked for CS Logistics as a currier and kept a daily regimen of exercise well into his 90's!
Gene loved photography, animals, go-kart racing with the boys, golfing on Father's Day, collecting and fixing Aladdin Oil Lamps and hiking in the Rockies with his daughter.
He was preceded in death by his wife Virginia in 2019 and son Larry Van Dyke in 2021. Gene is survived by his children Chris (Mike) Koper, David Scott (Lynette), Mark (Jean) Van Dyke and Linda (Lee) Zayac. Father-in-law of Ellen Van Dyke. Proud grandfather of Lauren Koper, Andy Mix, Scott Van Dyke, Jackie Van Dyke, John Baker, Stacey Niedzwiecki, Rick and Russ Baker, Kelli Baker, Sean Zayac and Monique Van Dyke.
There will be a time of gathering on Sunday, September 25, from 1:00 PM, until time of Memorial Service at 3:00 PM at CHURCH AND CHAPEL FUNERAL, 1875 N. Calhoun Rd., Brookfield. Burial with full Military Honors will take place on Monday, September 26 at 3:00 PM, 21731 Spring Street, Union Grove.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Wounded Warriors are appreciated, as they were very near and dear to his heart.
