Charles Eugene “Gene” Small, Jr., 71, husband of Deborah Ann Baker Small, passed away Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center.
Born on June 7, 1954, in Georgetown, he was a son of the late Charles Eugene Small, Sr. and the late Dorothy Nell Jacobs Small. Mr. Small was a member of Screven Baptist Church, was a mason with the Winyah Masonic Lodge and was a proud US Navy veteran. Mr. Small was the owner and operator of Small Wonder Landscaping, a business he nurtured with great pride. He had a great love for the outdoors, which was evident in his hobbies, which included hunting, fishing, boating and camping. These hobbies were not just pastimes for him but opportunities to share cherished moments with his family, especially his grandchildren, whom he loved dearly.
Survivors include his wife of Georgetown; one son, Ashton Biff Small of Georgetown; two step-daughters, Kim Smith (Ted) of Andrews and Kristen Foy (Rob) of Simpsonville; four grandchildren, Abby, Tori, Katherine and Luke; two sisters, Susan Finch (Bill) of Honey Hill and Linda Ransom (Hans) of Georgetown; three brothers, Jimmy Small (Michelle), John Michael Small (Melissa) and Keith Small (Kim) all of Georgetown; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two children, Charles E. Small, III and David Anthony Small.
Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Friday, March 27, 2026, at Screven Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 1-2 PM Friday at the church.
