Gene's life began on April 30, 1956 in Wichita, KS; the son of Gerald and Virginia (Johnson) Tharp. Gene worked hard for his family spending many years on the road driving truck as a relocation engineer. He had a deep love of the outdoors and enjoyed fishing. Gene loved to work on cars and go garage sale hunting-looking for that next big treasure. He was always there to help his children and grandchildren, enjoying spending time with them. Gene loved to mow his lawn and watch T.V. Closing the end of summer, Gene could be found at the State Fair, munching on fair treats and people watching. Gene's greatest joy was his family, which includes his wife, Joy of El Dorado; children Lea Tharp, Lisa Bowlin, Michael Tharp; several grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; brother Ronald Ray as well as a host of nieces and nephews that will miss him dearly. Gene passed away surrounded by family on January 2, 2026 at his home in El Dorado. Friends may gather with the family from 12-2pm on Friday, January 9 at Carlson Colonial Funeral Home where funeral services will take place at 2pm. Gene will be laid to rest at Sunset Lawns Cemetery in El Dorado. Please sign his online guestbook at www.carlsonkirbymorris.com
