Clyde, Gene Baxter Thomason, age 86, passed away on Friday, December 29, 2023 at Maggie Valley Nursing & Rehabilitation surrounded by his loving family.

A native of Haywood County, he was the only child of Fred Lawson Thomason and Celia Lindsay.

Gene had a long, successful 32-year career at Dayco Corporation as a spreader operator.  He honorably served in the National Guard and was of the Baptist faith.  Gene’s hobbies included using his skilled hands in woodworking, welding, and building.  He also enjoyed being outdoors, gardening and driving his tractor.  One of his favorite things was spending time with his grandkids and great-grandkids who all loved him dearly.

Gene is survived by his wife and best friend of 60 years, Fannie Ethel Reeves Thomason; daughter, Joyce O’Neil (Tracy); son, Ronald Thomason (Denise); three grandchildren, Travis Thomason (Emily), Makayla Hammond (Atley), and Makenzie Myers (Colby), and eleven great-grandchildren, Forrest, Bo, Silas, Caroline, Catherine, Emilia, and Henry Thomason and Wake, Scotlynn Kate Hammond, Graham, and Lydia Myers.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 2, 2024 in the Canton chapel of Wells Funeral Home with his grandson, Reverend Dr. Travis Thomason officiating.  Burial will follow at Haynes Family Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Raymond Baptist Church, 7955 Highway 477, Webster, KY 40176.

The care of Mr. Thomason has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Canton.
