Genee Somervold Obituary

Genee Jean Somervold, 68, of Belle Fourche died peacefully Wednesday morning, March 23, 2022. She chose hospice care and quality for the last 6 months of her earthly life. She shared so much love, joy and laughter with family and friends during her journey homeward.
Genee, the sweetheart Valentine baby, was born February 14, 1954 in Belle Fourche to Bonnie (Ginsbach) and Art Somervold. She shared an exciting childhood with her eight siblings, all whom graciously cared for her upon her move back to SD from MN last September when she had learned her cancer had returned. She desired to be close to her family for more memory making, which she did and did it well.
Graduating in 1972 from Belle Fourche High School, Genee enjoyed long time friendships with her classmates and made many close friends from Plainview MN where she lived the last 5 years. She attended BHSU where she studied wellness and physical fitness. At the age of 36, Genee proudly won a body building competition in 1991, against much younger women, additionally becoming a grandmother to her first two grandchildren only months later.
She loved the outdoors, gardening, camping, riding motorcycles and fishing. Socializing and having a great time with friends came naturally for Genee. She truly made friends wherever she went. A petite beauty with intricately tattooed full sleeves, she enjoyed fierce competition, and being agile and strong, she did not shy away from tough opponents, especially in racketball. Loved playing cards and especially liked the freedom she found in riding her motorcycle until only a year ago. She was an avid Green Bay Packer fan even before moving to Minnesota. Genee would often take on challenges others might shy away from and thus started her own cleaning business, No Fear Cleaning. She even hired some of her grand-daughters and worked along-side them, always striving to do the best for her clients. She took special care to make the most out of opportunities and could make any house, any place, a home. 'Home is where the heart is,' and Genee had a gift of creativity and hospitality making everyone feel free to be themselves with a nonjudgmental attitude of gratitude by just being her good humored self.
Spontaneous and enjoyable to be around, Genee could easily bring smile, laughter, acceptance and love to all who met her. She grew to have a deep love for Jesus and enjoyed worshipping at Trinity Evangelical Church in Plainview, Minnesota and Open Bible Church in Belle Fourche. She loved her women bible studies and rarely missed a daily devotional on her phone app.
She loved her large family, sisters, SanDee Wright, Belle Fourche, Yolanda (& Doug) Graslie, Buffalo Wyo, Pamela Somervold, Hermosa, Patricia (& Mike) Collins, Gillette Wyo, Cindy (& Dan) Stover, Belle Fourche and her brothers, Buck (& Julie) Ginsbach, Newell, Bob (& Teresa) Somervold, Belle Fourche, and Art Somervold, Nisland.
Genee is happily reunited with her daughter Stacey (Crowley) Pierce, and her mother Bonnie Ginsbach. Three beautiful women our family will never forget and forever love.
Genee cherished her grandchildren, Pastor/Army Chaplain Darin (& Amanda) Kirkman, Roseburg Oregon, Shaunte Pierce, Belle Fourche, Ashley (& Cpt. Eric) Flynn, Midland Georgia, Tanisha Pierce, Belle Fourche, Rachel Kirkman, Columbus, Georgia, Mason Pierce, Belle Fourche, Sierra Wiener, Plainview Minnesota, Dausen Davis, Belle Fourche, Lily Crowley, Gillette Wyoming. She had also been blessed by 5 great grandchildren (all girls!), Kaydence (12), Nova (9), Peyton (7), Harper (7), and Monroe (9mo). Genee has left a wonderful legacy of love in the gentle wake of her life and will be deeply missed by her two surviving children, daughter, Shannon Crowley, Columbus, Georgia and son, Brandon Crowley, Gillette, Wyoming.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, March 26, at 2:00 pm in the Memorial Building at Pine Slope Cemetery in Belle Fourche.
Family suggests memorials be sent to Chutes for Charity, PO Box 2014 Belle Fourche SD 57717, a local organization that monetarily supports families during life crisis.
