Genevieve A. Basante

Genevieve Agnes Basante, of Galloway, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on February 20, 2026, just eight days shy of her 91st birthday. She was born on February 28, 1935, in Nanticoke, Pennsylvania, to Piotr Zalewski and Henrietta Przylowski.

Genevieve built a life rooted in love, family, and quiet strength. Over the years she made her home in Carteret, Vernon, Hackettstown, and Galloway, and also spent meaningful time in northern Illinois. No matter where she lived, her home was always a place of warmth, welcome, and good food.

Her greatest joy was being a mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She poured her heart into raising her family, and nothing made her happier than having everyone gathered around her table. She was known for her cooking, baking, cleaning, and her love of collecting tchotchkes, as well as the simple happiness she found in being with the people she loved most.

Genevieve is survived by her five children - Marie, Denise, Joe, Andrea, and Carla - as well as eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren, all of whom were the light of her life.

She will be remembered for her kindness, her devotion to family, and the love she gave so freely.

Funeral will be on Friday, February 27, 2026 starting at 9 AM at Synowiecki Funeral Home, 56 Carteret Avenue, Carteret, NJ, followed by a 9:30 AM Mass at Divine Mercy Parish-Holy Family Church in Carteret. Interment will be held at St. Gertrude Cemetery in Colonia. Visitation will be on Thursday, February 26, 2026 from 5 PM to 7 PM.
