Genoveffa Corea Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Casper Funeral & Cremation Services on Jan. 6, 2026.
Genoveffa "Gena" Immaculata Corea was a pioneering feminist author, investigative journalist, and advocate whose work challenged the powerful medical, technological, and social institutions of the patriarchy and reshaped conversations about women's bodies, health, and autonomy.
The author of The Mother Machine, The Invisible Epidemic, and The Hidden Malpractice, Gena traveled the world listening to women and exposing the ways in which women's experiences in healthcare are marginalized, exploited, and dismissed. She wrote not to comfort, but to illuminate what is.
Although it was entirely uncalled for, Gena passed on December 31 from breast cancer. Her courageous work endures as a testament to the necessity of listening and the power of truth-telling.
Beyond her work, Genoveffa Immaculata was truly, deeply, vibrantly alive. She was the very best teacher of life and how to live it - with unmatched presence, compassion, and joy. She was the spark that lit up the brilliance in anyone experiencing the magic of a conversation with her. She intuitively knew of knowledge that cannot exist in this world without compassionate listening.
Gena's final book, Table in the Clearing: A Memoir of Sacred Jailbreaks, will soon be published posthumously. An accidental memoir, Table in the Clearing embodies her commitment to compassionate listening and our interconnectedness.
Gena is survived by her six siblings, adoring nephews and nieces, beloved friends, and her adopted daughter and family. Her burial will be small and private.
In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to Global Fund for Women: https://www.globalfundforwomen.org
May she fulfill her promise to lovingly haunt her loved ones, and may we honor her rich aliveness by remembering the inter-connectedness of our lives, laughing deeply, listening with compassion, and dancing joyfully.

Gena was equal parts tenacious and tender, intense and peaceable, and above all, a truly loving soul. We are forever better for having known and loved her.
