Genrose Smith Hopper, age 98, a beloved homemaker and cherished member of her community, passed away on January 9, 2026, at Haywood County Post Acute. Born on December 7, 1927, in Gibson County, Genrose lived a life full of love and devotion. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at 1:00 PM, at the Lea & Simmons Funeral Home with Rev. Richard Dickerson officiating. Burial will follow at the Brownsville Memorial Gardens in Brownsville, TN. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, from 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM, at the Lea & Simmons Funeral Home.
Throughout her years, Genrose exemplified passion in all that she did. She held a deep affection for her family, her church, and above all, her Lord. Her nurturing spirit and caring nature made lasting memories for those fortunate enough to know her. Genrose enjoyed many hobbies, including traveling, fishing, and sewing, and found joy in walking her dogs, which brought her closer to nature and the world around her.
She is survived by her son, Bill Sullivan, and her grandson, Joey Sullivan, both of whom carry her legacy forward. Genrose's family was a central part of her life, and she delighted in the time spent with them. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Billy Sullivan, Carl Brummett, and James Hopper, her brother, James Roy (Bubba) Smith, Jr., her sisters, Martha Hendrix, Syble Lott, Betty Ann Johnson, Katherine Milam, and Melba Smith and her daughter in law, Vicki Sullivan. Their memories will remain forever woven into her narrative, a testament to a family bond that transcends time.
Pallbearers for the service are Dewayne Hendrix, Ernie Hendrix, Joey Sullivan, Justin Spoon, Mike Spoon and Floyd Stewart.
As friends and family gather to remember Genrose, they will reflect on a life filled with kindness, faith, and unwavering love. The family requests memorials be made to the charity of the donor's choice. All arrangements and services are under the direction of the Lea & Simmons Funeral Home.
