Jeff Carlson, 79, died peacefully November 2, 2025 (on his birthday!) at his home in southwest Colorado with loved ones by his side.
Jeff was born November 2, 1946, in Chicago, IL to Harry and Alix (Solomekin) Carlson. He graduated from Lindbloom High School in Chicago in 1965 and then worked for a short time as a machinist, followed by four years in the U.S. Air Force before returning to Chicago. He then went to work for Illinois Bell. Shortly after that, he left the big city and moved to Colorado where he continued his career in the telecommunications industry with the Bell System.
In the early 1970s, Jeff discovered his love for snow skiing, and became involved with various ski clubs and ski racing. In the early 1980s, he met the love of his life, Lois (Shepp), in the Schussbaumer Ski Club of Breckenridge, CO. They married on January 15, 1988. In their 37 years of marriage, the couple lived and worked in the Denver area and spent weekends in the mountains hiking, biking, and skiing. In 1998 they retired and moved to southwest Colorado where they built their retirement home.
Jeff loved anything having to do with the outdoors and was also an accomplished woodworker and handyman. He was willing to tackle any type of project and loved to share his skills with anyone that was willing to learn. Much of the couple’s time in retirement involved traveling with their RV and exploring the western USA and Canada. Jeff’s most memorable trips were to Alaska, British Columbia, and the Oregon Coast.
Jeff was also involved with several local groups where his outgoing personality and sense of humor allowed him to develop many meaningful friendships.
Jeff is survived by his beloved wife, Lois. Jeff was preceded in death by his parents and his sister (Marsha). He will be deeply missed by his wife and friends. May his memory be comfort to those that knew him.
Per Jeff’s wishes, there will be no public services held. A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.
