George O. Arguin, 85, of Mattapoisett, passed away peacefully on December 31, 2025, surrounded by the love of his wife and children.
Born in New Bedford on February 16, 1940, he was the son of the late Theophile and Laurette Arguin. A natural athlete in his youth, George was a standout football player, leaving his mark on the field at Bishop Coyle High School, American International College (AIC), and with the semi-professional Murphy Club.
After marrying the love of his life, Kathleen, George stepped into the role of proprietor for his family's printshop. He dedicated over 40 years to the business, earning a reputation as a tireless worker who mastered the "jack of all trades" lifestyle. Despite the long hours required to run the shop, George's priority remained his family; he possessed the rare ability to be both a provider and a constant, present fixture in the lives of his wife and children. Together with Kathleen, he built a beautiful home and a full life in Mattapoisett.
George was a man of vibrant energy and humor-truly the life of every party and a perpetual joker who loved to make people laugh. During the winter months, he was most at home on the ski slopes, a passion he shared deeply with his family. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, devotion, and joy.
George is survived by his beloved wife, Kathleen (Canal) Arguin; his son, Matthew Arguin; his daughter, Sarah Arguin-Humenuk; and his two cherished grandchildren, Elin and Nolan Arguin-Humenuk, all of Mattapoisett. He also leaves behind his sister, Lillian Richard of New Bedford, along with a host of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Roland Arguin.
His Memorial Visitation will be held Friday, January 9, 2026 from 4-7 PM in the Saunders-Dwyer Mattapoisett Home for Funerals, 50 County Rd., Mattapoisett. For directions and guestbook, visit www.saundersdwyer.com.
