George Barr Obituary

George Britt Barr Jr.
Born: December 17, 1952
Died: May 11, 2025
George Britt Barr Jr., age 72, passed away suddenly on Sunday, May 11, 2025.
George Britt Barr Jr.-beloved husband, devoted father, proud grandfather affectionately known as Boompa, cherished brother, and loving son-passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of joy, strength, and unwavering love.
To know George was to hear his infectious, booming laugh echo through a room and to feel the warmth of one of his unforgettable bear hugs. His spirit was larger than life, his joy contagious, and his presence a constant source of comfort and light to those fortunate enough to know him.
A graduate of Duke University in 1975, George was a fierce athlete in his younger years, competing with intensity and heart. That passion for sports carried into every chapter of his life. He could always be found on the sidelines-at the field, court, or ballpark-cheering on his children and, later, his grandchildren with immense pride.
George was also a dedicated business owner whose hard work, integrity, and warmth shaped not only his career but the lives of those who worked alongside him. He found joy in the simple pleasures-teeing off with family and friends on the golf course and gathering for Friday night dinners at Fritz's Pour House, where he was known by name, laugh, and heart.
Above all, George's greatest pride was his family. He poured his heart into being a loving husband to Lynnan Horvat Barr, and a guiding, joyful presence to his children: Aimee (Noah) Kam, Matthew (Chelsea) Barr, Alyssa (Stefan) Young, and Stephanie (Sean) Mulholland. As Boompa, he was the ultimate cheerleader and storyteller to his beloved grandchildren: Makenna and Luke Kam; Clara Barr; Jackson and Brady Young; and Jameson and Carter Mulholland.
George is also survived by his dear siblings, Gigi (Mike) Turk, Geoff (Jeanne) Barr, and Greg (Juliana) Barr; siblings-in-law, Ed (Lena) Horvat and Rich (Rose) Horvat; and his treasured uncle, Bob Briick. He was preceded in death by his parents, George Britt and Gloria Barr, and his parents-in-law, Frederick and Agnes Horvat.
His laughter will echo in our memories, and his legacy of love, joy, and family devotion will forever live in our hearts.
A celebration of George's life will be held on Thursday, May 15, 2025 with a visitation at Tezak Funeral Home, 1211 Plainfield Road, Joliet from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The family invites relatives and friends to gather at the funeral home on Friday, May 16, 2025 from 9:00 a.m. until prayers in the funeral home chapel at 9:30 a.m. then driving in procession to the Cathedral of St. Raymond for a Mass of Christian Burial to be held at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Joliet.
