George Bowen Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Houser-Millard Funeral Directors - Jefferson City on Jan. 29, 2026.
George David Bowen passed away on January 26, 2026, at the University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia, Missouri.

George was born in St. Louis, Missouri, to Charley Lee Bowen and Julia Violet (Smith) Bowen, who preceded him in death. He later earned his GED and made his home in Jefferson City, Missouri.

George was engaged to the love of his life, Amanda Bax, whom he met while working at Scholastic. He also shared a loving and caring bond with Amanda's daughter, Bailey Lassen. Family meant everything to George, and the time spent with his loved ones was among his greatest joys.

He began his working career at Scholastic and later worked for Modern Litho, where he remained employed until his passing.

George's true passion was cooking, especially smoking and grilling. He was known for bringing people together through food, laughter, and music. His sister often said he made the best deep-fried turkeys, a claim many would agree with. George loved spending time with friends and family while cooking and could often be heard singing along to his favorite music, creating memories that will be cherished forever.

George is survived by his fiancée, Amanda Bax, and her daughter, Bailey Lassen; one brother, Phil Bowen; one sister, Karen Bowen; one nephew, Keith Sowell; two nieces, Sierah Sowell and Dorian Smith; and several other loving family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charley Lee Bowen and Julia Violet (Smith) Bowen, and one sister, Charlene Sowell.

George will be remembered for his kind heart, love of music, passion for cooking, and the joy he brought to everyone who knew him.
