Our beloved husband, father, and grandfather, George Brackenbury, passed away on December 25, 2023, at the age of 93 in Herriman, Utah.

George was born on June 19, 1930, in Filer, Idaho to George Sr and Estella Brackenbury. He was the 7th child of 9 loving brothers and sisters.  As a child and young man George worked on the family farm.

He attended and graduated from Albion High School.  While in High School he was the captain of the football team, served as the Junior Class Vice-President, and Student body President of his Senior class.

George attended one year of college at Southern Idaho College of Education in Albion, Idaho, where he began his general studies and participated on the boxing team.

He was drafted into the US Army in February 1951 during the Korean War as part of the 109th Artillery Division Infantry.  He served as an Athletic Training Instructor, patrolled the borders of Germany, and drove for the Colonel.  After his discharge he attended the Intermountain School of Telegraphy for the Union Pacific Railroad and also worked for Walsh Plumbing. He continued his education in the plumbing trade and was the top apprentice for his graduating class in Utah and then went on to compete in the National Competition at Purdue University in Lafayette, IN where he placed first in his division. He worked in the trade for 44 years before retiring.

George enjoyed hunting and fishing and especially loved doing these sports with his son, Richard, and close friend Ray Lemke and his son, Steve.

He was a great handyman and could fix almost anything.  He enjoyed raising bees and working on his property.

George was a ray of sunshine and would light up the room with his lighthearted personality and humor. There wasn’t a person that did not like him.  He was a kind, compassionate, strong, and caring man and had a positive impact on many lives.

His work ethic, faith, selflessness, and patience were a great example that was instilled in his children. He enjoyed taking his family camping and on vacations, making memories for a lifetime.

He is survived by his wife, Esther of 70 years, 4 children, Richard (Marcee), Karen (Jeff), Connie (Curt), Nancy (Dave), 9 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. His sister, Della Berg, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George Sr and Estella Brackenbury, brothers (Rod, Jack, Gerald) and sisters (Olive, Estella, Lillie, Violet).
