George Checkowski, a loving and dedicated husband, father, grampy, and friend died on January 11th, 2025 in Lexington, Mass.
Born in 1942 to Julia and Stanley Checkowski of Jersey City, NJ, George is survived by his sons, Brian, Matt and his wife Erin; granddaughters, Gala and Estella; brother Stanley Checkowski; in-laws, cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 55 years, Judy, along with brother Anthony and sister Barbara.
George was born and raised in Jersey City before moving his family to Acton, Mass., where he built a home and a career as an electrical engineer with the Digital Equipment Corporation. He shared his talent and passion for making and woodworking with family and friends through his sons' Scout activities, school science, technology, and art projects, and countless hours in the woodshop, crafting furniture and carving wooden decoys with extraordinary detail.
George was a proud captain of the Concord Rod & Gun Club Pistol A-Team and a lifetime member of "the club," a place that holds countless fond family memories. A passionate cyclist, he pedaled much of the area on his road bike and, in more recent years, could be found logging daily miles on his recumbent. George's commitment, strength, and sense of humor defined his character - as exemplified by his lifelong loyalty to the New York Yankees. His smile will be deeply missed.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, Feb. 8th, 2025 from 12pm to 2pm at the Concord Rod & Gun Club, 74 Strawberry Hill Rd., Concord MA 01742.
