George R. Clark, Jr., 85, of Sussex Borough, passed away peacefully on November 3, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Sussex, New Jersey, George was raised in the Beemerville section of Wantage Township before moving to Sussex Borough following his marriage in 1958 to his high school sweetheart, Judith Clark. He was a proud graduate of Sussex High School, Class of 1958, where he was crowned Prom King alongside Judith, his Prom Queen.
George worked as a salesman for Sears & Co. in Middletown, NY for 36 years, retiring in 2000. Never one to stay idle, he continued working for many years at Magarino Ford in Sussex. Deeply committed to his town and neighbors, George was a lifetime member of the Sussex Fire Department, where he served as both Past Chief and Past President, and was also a dedicated EMT of the Sussex First Aid Squad.
A man of faith, George was baptized at Beemerville Presbyterian Church, where he remained a lifelong member. He also served his community as Vice President of the Sussex-Wantage Board of Education.
George enjoyed golfing, bowling, hunting, fishing, and scuba diving, but most of all, he cherished time spent with his family and friends.
He was predeceased by his father, George R. Clark, Sr.; his daughter, Christine Swarts; and his brother, Donald Clark.
George is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Judith Clark; his children, John D. Clark (Marsha), Jodi Bell (Glenn), Robert Clark-German (Terry), and Michael Clark (Michelle); 14 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers, Ed Clark, Tom Clark, and Roger Clark; his sister, Linda Bochat; his mother, Mary Clark; his mother-in-law, Madeline Coykendall; and brothers-in-law, Thomas Clark and Daniel Clark.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 9, 2025, from 2:00–6:00 p.m. at Ferguson Funeral Home, 27 Third Street, Sussex, NJ, with a Fireman's Service at 5:30 p.m. Funeral services will take place on Monday, November 10, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the Sussex Fire Department, 25 Loomis Avenue, Sussex, NJ, followed by burial at Beemerville Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in George's memory to the Sussex Fire Department or Deborah Heart and Lung
