I just learned of George's passing. I had the pleasure of working with him when he was an internal medicine resident and infectious disease fellow at University of Maryland in Baltimore. George was a genius- one of the smartest docs I ever met. I was working on aminoglycoside PK in the shock-trauma unit and George and I would have many discussions about this emerging discipline. Subsequently, he became a giant in the field. My deepest condolences to his family. He will be sorely missed.

Mary Anne I am so sorry to just find out about George. I will miss his night before Christmas phone calls we had over the past 50 years. He was a fabulous physician and researcher and an even better human being and loved you deeply. God rest the soul of a wonderful and talented man.

I am saddened to hear of George's passing. My heart goes out to Marianne and the entire family. George was a mentor to me in my early career, always generous with his time and advice. We reconnected about a year ago to collaborate on a new scientific project. Although many years had passed, George's generous spirit and indomitable sense of humor were as strong as ever. We're going to miss him.

Marianne:
My heart goes out to you during this difficult time. I know that George is at rest now, and I wish you comfort and peace as well. He will be missed.
For me, it is hard to believe I can't call him on on the phone, chat about whatever, and I would wait for the "Blazing Saddles" quote. (My favorite was "These are people of the land. The common clay of the new West. You know... morons." when we were discussing another groups publication. Or the most frequent "Badges? We don't need no stinking badges!"). Working with George at U. Maryland and Albany Med were some of the best years of my life, Not just because of the science and technology we produced, but because of the comradery and his kindness.

Dear Marianne,
George and I were colleagues who intersected frequently at professional meetings and consulting gigs. Like everyone, I was a great admirer of his intellect and remarkable energy. I also had great affection for him and greatly enjoyed our occasional dinners together where the conversations would have a very wide range. I admired him for his decency and generosity, and for the unabashed way he acknowledged his love for you and for your children.
I will miss him. I wish only the best for you and your family and I hope you can take comfort in his memory.

Dear Marianne, I have just heard of George´s passing and am devastated by your loss. This much I can tell you, and you already knew this, George loved you very much. And this I know as well, he was proud of his sons. I will miss George, that´s for sure, but will choose to remember the good days, the dinners, the collaborative work that we had together. Every person hopes to leave a mark in this life for the good. George, both in his work and relationships, has. His life counted. To you and the boys I wish peace in your lives and fond memories of George.
Requiescat in pace, George.

Dear Marianne and the extended Drusano family: I want to extend my condolences to all of you and will keep George and you in my prayers. I had the great fortune of working for and with George for several years at Albany Medical College. He was an absolute genius and giant in the field of ID, and I am grateful for all I learned from him and the opportunities he gave me to grow my career. George's love and respect for his colleagues extended to the patients he cared for and impacted. He will be missed by all. May time heal your sadness. Pete Piliero, MD

Dear Drusano Family; Our hearts go out to you at this time of loss. Toby and I met George as medical students at Maryland, and upon returning there to join the I.D. faculty, I had the privilege of working with him as a colleague. He was one of the smartest and wittiest docs I've ever met. Working with him was a joy. We hope that you are comforted knowing how much he contributed not only to patients but also to the physician & research community that he so loved. Warmly, David Oldach & Toby Ritterhoff (Class of '86).
