George Clinton Felts of Virginia Beach, VA, passed away unexpectedly at home on October 22, 2024, just three days shy of his 76th birthday and 21st wedding anniversary. Born in Norfolk, VA on October 25, 1948, George was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend who touched the lives of many. George is survived by his wife of 20 years, Mary Felts; his children Adrian Felts (Kirby) and Shelbi Tabler (Bobby); his stepdaughter Melinda Tucker (Scott); and his cherished grandchildren Merritt and Anders Felts, Arden and Rex Tabler, and step-grandchild Sterling Tucker. He is also survived by his sisters, Dolly Ward, Bessie Garrett, and Wanda Edney (Ken), as well as nieces Janet Carter and Elizabeth Ward Klamert, and nephews Bo Ward III, Rick Felts, Paul Garrett, and Ray Garrett Jr. He was predeceased by his parents, Thomas and Bessie Felts; his brother Macon Felts; and brothers-in-law Ray Garrett Sr. and Bowden Ward Jr.
George loved his family & friends, adventure, and sports. He proudly served in the National Guard, and graduated from Princess Anne High and Old Dominion University. His love of golf was only matched by his unwavering love for the New York Yankees past and present. One of his proudest moments on the golf course was scoring a hole-in-one, a testament to his lifelong passion for the game. When he wasn't playing golf, George could often be found enjoying time on the beach, watching a ballgame, enjoying cocktails with friends at a local venue, listening to live music, or visiting his kids and grandkids who were the light of his life.
He had a deep love for classic rock music from the 1950s through the 1970s and could have appeared on Jeopardy with his vast knowledge of seemingly all things. He cherished his golf outings and weekly lunches with his buddies and traveling with Mary and friends to warm destinations, often making time for a round of golf or a trip to watch an Old Dominion University football or basketball game.
Above all, George will be remembered for his undeniably strong opinions, sense of humor, talent of falling asleep anywhere (at any time, often after just waking up), his need to quote the movie Creepshow on his birthday ("I want my cake"), and the inability to stop repeating phrases he found funny (like "I want my cake" on his birthday). He was always the loudest when cheering on his kids, never watched a movie he couldn't quote, never missed the opportunity to share sports statistics or random facts with ease, and was never able to watch his kids leave without tears in his eyes and a lump in his throat as he waved goodbye until they were out of sight.
His kids and their children will greatly miss the delivery of fresh Krispy Kreme donuts he would bring on nearly every visit, and the grandkids will especially miss the $20 and sometimes $100 bills he seemed to manifest out of thin air nearly every time he saw them. His kids are looking forward to divvying up the many golf balls, white baseball caps, and photographs he's collected over the years. Rest easy & GO YANKS!
A celebration of George's life will be held on Sunday, November 10, 2024, at 3:30p.m. at Simple Eats, 3152 Shore Dr., Virginia Beach, VA 23451.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital Cardiac or Cancer Center in George's memory.
