George William “Sonny” Ferguson went to be with Our Lord Jesus Christ on September 14, 2025. He was born on February 16, 1936, in Bentley, Louisiana to his parents, Truman and Mary Ferguson. He met and married the love of his life, Norma Jean Mills in 1955. After meeting her, he knew she was the one he was going to marry. They were married for 68 years.
He was a strong man. He loved giving and helping others. He would literally give the shirt off his back if someone needed it. He served as a member of the National Guard. He worked as a heavy equipment operator and drove trucks across the country. His hobbies include hunting game and fishing. He and his wife were members of the “Perch Jerkers” Fishing Club where they competed in tournaments. He also loved the fast lane and decided on dirt track racing, where everyone affectionately called him “Uncle Sonny.” He taught his wife to drive his car for “Powder Puff” racing in which she won. He and his wife were supportive of his son-in-law’s racing and would travel to cheer him on. He had a great sense of humor and had many sayings, although his favorite word was “whatever.” Whenever asked what he was doing, he would say, “Sittin on my Don-key!” He always says “55-22” as a throwback to his truck driving days for “10-4.” He had many pets and loved them dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Truman T. Ferguson and Mary Elizabeth Boyt Ferguson, siblings, Maggie Lee McCrary and Lola Mae Hydak (George). His loving wife Norma Jean Mills Ferguson.
He is survived by his brother, Raymond “Gene” Ferguson. His daughters, Sherry Allen (Randy), Loretta Callender (Robert), Connie Martin (Kevin), Georgia Myers, Donna Roberts (Randy), Tricia Chanler (Jeff), 12 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and 3 great great-grandchildren.
