George Lawrence Fleury, Jr., 94, of the Cold Spring Road, Peru, died Thursday, July 17, 2025, at his home under the loving care of his family and Hospice of the North Country.
George was born in Keeseville, March 22, 1931, the son of George, Sr. and Exilda "Edith" (Blaise) Fleury. George grew up in Keeseville, graduated from Keeseville High School, and served in the US Army in Germany as a medic during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1954.
He worked at Prescott and Sons in Keeseville as a cabinet worker until it closed in 1965 and later at Imperial Paper Mill in Plattsburgh until he retired in 1993.
George was a devote Catholic who watched Mass every day when he was no longer able to attend Church.
George was an avid gardener, bowler, golfer, billiard player, softball player, and fisherman (especially during the winter, if there was ice on Lake Champlain). When the fish weren't biting or the garden didn't need tending, you might get George to play cards.
In his later years, you would find him walking up and down the road every day, at least two to three miles, in all kinds of weather. As his balance became a bit unsteady, he would bring his cane, didn't necessarily use it for balance, but would wave with it as a car went by. After falling and breaking his femur, he was forced to use his rollator while walking but that never slowed him down.
Over the last few years, George has enjoyed his favorite Saturday meal consisting of a big mac, fries, and his favorite beverage.
George was a loving husband and a proud and supportive father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He had many friends throughout his life, many of whom he is celebrating with right now.
Left to cherish the memory of George are, his children, Kim (Kevin) Devins of Peru, and Joseph (Tina) Fleury of Vestal; grandsons, Joseph (Jessica) Fleury of Reading, MA; Kyle (Michaela) Devins of Somerville, MA; and Korey Devins of Nashua, NH; great-grandsons, George Cooper Fleury and Caleb Michael Devins; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his loving wife, Georgia, of 38 years; sisters and brothers-in-law, Ruth (Gabriel) LaValley, Mildred (Sam) Twa, and Marge (Charles) McGee; and a brother, Donald Fleury.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday, July 25, 2025 at 11 am in St. John's Church in Keeseville. Committal prayers, military honors, and burial will follow in the Harkness Cemetery.
Donations in his memory may be made to Hospice of the North Country. Contributions can be mailed to them at 358 Tom Miller Road, Plattsburgh, NY, 12901 or made online by clicking here
Arrangements are in the care of the Hamilton Funeral Home, 124 Clinton Street, Keeseville, 518-834-7667.
