George Gero Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Mountcastle Turch Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc. - Woodbridge on Feb. 9, 2026.
George Herman Gero, Jr. passed away on January 2, 2026 at the age of 78, entering his eternal rest exactly as he wished-surrounded by his family and in deep conversation with God. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy.

Born in Springfield, MA, George (nicknamed "Skipper") was the only child of George Gero, Sr and Lucille Bouthilette Gero. After graduating from the University of Massachusetts, he answered the call to serve his country by joining the U.S. Army where he met his wife of 50 years.

George's greatest pride was his family. He is survived by his daughter Sam, son Brian, and daughter-in-law Jennifer. He thoroughly enjoyed being a grandfather, celebrating every milestone reached by his grandchildren, Lauren, Kaela, Logan, and Mateo. Whether he was traveling to new places or simply sharing a meal, George was happiest when surrounded by those he loved.

George's faith was a foundation of his life. When he wasn't traveling or spending time with his family, he dedicated much of his life to his faith community, serving in roles at his church and through Chrysalis and Emmaus programs.

He approached his passing without fear, comforted by a lifetime of devotion and the anticipation of meeting his Creator.

He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, service, and a reminder to live a life rooted in purpose.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, February 28th, 5:00 pm at his church, Bethel United Methodist, 13506 Minnieville Rd, Woodbridge, VA 22192. His burial will be held at Arlington National Cemetery later this year.

I knew Skipper Gero since we were young kids in Easthampton, we went through school together, and he was always a kind and sweet person. I enjoyed seeing him at our high school reunion. I send my condolences to his family.
