George Goffner Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Sunset Funeral Home, Cremation Center & Cemetery on Jan. 9, 2025.
George Goffner, a cherished father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 7, 2025, at the age of 102 in Evansville, IN. Born on October 28, 1922, in Vincennes, IN, George's life was a testament to the joy of simple pleasures and the strength of family bonds.
George's journey began in the heartland of Indiana, where he grew up imbued with a strong work ethic and a love for his community. He spent many years as a dedicated laborer, contributing to the growth and development of his hometown. His commitment to his work was matched only by his involvement in various associations, where he formed lasting friendships and made significant contributions through his service.
Family was the cornerstone of George's life. He is survived by his loving son, Mose Goffner and his wife Barbara, and his devoted daughter, Anita Goffner-Johnson, who resides in Kansas City, Missouri. George's legacy continues through his grandsons, Richard Johnson III and his wife Lafonda, and Anthony Johnson and his wife Carlisa, all of whom live in Kansas City, Missouri. His grandchildren, Richard Johnson IV, Antwone Goffner, Monique Terrell, Nikki Swisher, CJ Swisher, Delese and friend Rob Greenwell, Monica Dixon, Chenoy Dixon, and Elmo Dixon III, and great great grandchildren; Alivia Johnson, Aniyah Johnson, Mia Johnson, Caden and Carter Johnson, Demetrius Isbell Jr., Nasir Llyod, Jahl Llyod, Jamari Chapman, Jairome Evan, Nau'bian Treasure Williams, Phai'deyan Wiggins, and many others will carry forward the values and lessons he instilled in them. George also leaves behind his niece and nephew, Ronnie Greer and her husband Leslie, David Neighbors and his wife Eva. He was preceded in death by his beloved son-in-law, Richard Johnson Jr, and his siblings Curtis Goffner, Lucille Neighbors, William Goffner, Cora Goffner, and Eugene Goffner. His significant other Janice passed on before him.
An avid dancer, George could often be found gliding across the dance floor with a grace that belied his years. His passion for music, especially the blues, was a constant in his life, with BB King being among his favorite artists. A true Packer fan, George's enthusiasm for his team was infectious, and game days were always a special occasion in the Goffner household.
George's life was a melody composed of joyous moments and the love of those around him. His warm smile and kind heart will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. As we bid farewell to George Goffner, we celebrate a life well-lived, full of the music and dance he so dearly loved. His spirit will continue to inspire us, just as the timeless tunes of the blues echo on.
