George Gottschall Obituary

George T. Gottschall

February 22, 1947 - November 29, 2024

George Gottschall, fondly known to many as "Oeg" or "Georgie Porgie", was a man of many facets. Born on February 22, 1947, to Stanley and Irene, his zest for life was evident from an early age. Ambitious and charismatic, George had an infectious spirit that not only lit up a room but also the lives of those around him. He was a straight shooter, a loving and loyal man, who always knew how to bring a smile to your face, often through his unique brand of humor and bad jokes.

George's passions were as diverse as his personality. He was a man who could just as easily be found belting out Golden Oldies or practicing karate as he could be tinkering under the hood of a car. His life was a testament to his drive and inventiveness; he served in the US Air Force Special Forces as a Morse Code Interceptor in Greece, invented the "Guardian Angel" reflective safety belt for joggers and walkers, and even owned a Godfather's Pizza Restaurant. His contribution to the community extended beyond his inventions and business, as he was a proud member of The Optimist Club. Yet, with all his achievements, what mattered most to George was his family.

George leaves a legacy of love and laughter to his children, Bret Gottschall, Tiffany Gottschall, and Dawn Bolen; his daughter-in-law, Susan; and his grandkids, Joseph, Michael, Tess, and Donovan. He is also survived by his siblings, Mary Teers, Stan Gottschall, Keith Gottschall, Paul Gottschall, Joe Gottschall, and their respective spouses; and his sisters-in-law, LaVonne Kaup and Sue Henggeler. George was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Linda and his parents, Stanley and Irene.

We gather to celebrate the life of George on Monday, December 9, 2024, at 2 p.m. at the Colonial Chapel Funeral Home, 5200 R Street, Lincoln, Nebraska.

George and the family request that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made in memory of George for the continued support of his grandchildren, Joseph, Michael, Tess, and Donovan. Checks can be made payable to: Dawn Bolen, 2150 Pond Cr., Lincoln, NE 68512, or Venmo: @Bret-Gottschall. With Love and Gratitude, Tiffany, Dawn, Bret and Family.

George was a great neighbor. He was kind and always greeted you, even if he didn't know you. He was compassionate with his family, and taking care of them was his first priority. You will be missed Sir.
