George Graves Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Tippecanoe Funeral & Cremation Services on Mar. 17, 2026.
George DeWayne "Wayne" Graves, 92, of West Lafayette, Indiana, passed away on March 14, 2026. He was born on September 26, 1933, in Lafayette, Indiana.

Wayne graduated from Klondike High School in West Lafayette. In 1969, he married the love of his life, Sheila Derment, and together they shared many years of marriage, travel, and memories.

Wayne worked as a mason and was a proud co-owner of the family business Graves Masonry, where he worked until he retired. Wayne loved watching westerns and was a devoted fan of the Chicago Bears. He especially enjoyed traveling, with favorite trips to Florida and to California to visit his daughter. For many years he and Sheila enjoyed, and even taught ballroom dancing, took many vacations together and loved sightseeing along the way. Wayne also had a well-known sweet tooth and never turned down a good dessert.

More than anything, Wayne loved his family. He was a great man who would give or do anything for his family and friends.

He is survived by his children: Terri Catron of West Lafayette, Indiana; Eric (Vicki) Graves of Colfax, Indiana; and Brenton (Tessa) Graves of West Lafayette, Indiana. He also leaves behind many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and his beloved grandpuppies, whom he adored.

Wayne was preceded in death by his wife, Sheila Graves-Derment; his son, Brad Graves; his parents, Lillie Carter Graves and Porter Graves; his sisters, Gladys Dearing, Katherine Thompson, Maxine Ingram, and Edith Graves; and his brothers, William Graves, Hubert Graves, and Hoy Graves.

Wayne will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, and the love he shared with his family and friends.

Visitation will be held Friday, March 20, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., with the funeral service beginning at 1:00 p.m. at Tippecanoe Funeral & Cremation Services, 3631 Morehouse Road, West Lafayette, Indiana 47906.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Almost Home Humane Society in Wayne's honor.
