George Albert Grimes, Sr. (83) of Zanesville, passed away peacefully in his home while in the loving presence of his family in the morning hours of March 29, 2025. He was born in Zanesville on May 27, 1941 to Otto and Virginia Grimes, Sr. He was raised by Willie and Ola Grimes.
George was a family man, and cared for them above all else. He cherished the time that he spent with his wife, his children, and the grands and great-grands as his family grew. He was a master repairman, who could fix anything he could get his hands on. He enjoyed riding motorcycles, and taught himself to play the guitar. He was a huge Buckeyes fan, enjoyed listening to country music from different eras ranging from the 50’s to the 80’s. Most especially, he loved Elvis and Gene Autry.
He is survived by his loving wife, Sharon Grimes, his son, George (Joyce) Grimes, Jr., son, Gene (Kelly) Grimes, daughters, Sandy (Randy) Mayle, Sherrie (Donnie) Grimes, Stacy Rogers, son, Gregory Grimes, and his daughter, Robin Robinson. He also leaves behind twelve grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren to cherish his memory, as well as his sisters, Mary Kuhn and Florence Dodd, and his dogs Jake and Gabby.
George is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Otto Grimes, Jr. and Charlie Grimes, as well as his daughter, Cynthia Grimes.
A private service for George will be held at the BOLIN-DIERKES FUNERAL HOME, 1271 BLUE AVENUE, ZANESVILLE with Celebrant Lindsay Michel officiating; which will be immediately followed by a private burial in Greenwood Cemetery.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Hospice of Central Ohio for the excellent care they provided to George.
