George Howard Gunn was born in Fairfield, Alabama on December 19, 1946, the son of the late Richard Cornell and Mary E. Millwood Gunn.
On January 1, 1966, he was united in marriage to Jean Ann Lyons Gunn, who survives.
George worked in Washington DC for the Federal Bureau of Investigation as a fingerprint technician. While there, he met Jean and after they married they lived in Oxon Hill, Maryland. He then worked for Bud Weatherly as a pilot, flying United States Airmail on Beach 18 Aircraft. He also served as a flight instructor for most of his adult life. George also had the role of an Air Frame and Power Plant Mechanic with Southern Airways in New Orleans, Louisiana. George also flew as a pilot for both Hawaiian Airlines and Eastern Airlines. George retired after 22 years as a Flight Safety Inspector for the Federal Aviation Administration when he lived Stockbridge, Georgia but continued working for the FAA as needed in Oklahoma as a contract instructor until the age of 70. He then lived in Morris Chapel, Tennessee for 16 years, and most recently in Adamsville, Tennessee. He had received the Wright Brothers "Master Pilot" award and the Gold Seal Flight Instructor. George was a member of ALPA Union and Quiet Birdmen and a former member of the Professional Airways Systems Specialist Union. He was also a member of St. Pauls Episcopal Church in Corinth, Mississippi.
George departed this life on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, in Adamsville, Tennessee at the age of 78 years, 9 months, and 5 days.
Addition to his wife of 59 years, Jean of Adamsville, Tennessee, he is survived by his children, DeAnna Davenport of East Carondelet, Illinois and Susan Siddiqui of Auburn, Alabama; grandchildren, Jonathan Winskie, Anthony Tudorancea, Rachel Tudorancea, Erick Tudorancea, Noora Siddiqui, Ikhlas Siddiqui, Safaa Siddiqui, and Rabia Siddiqui; great grandchildren, Jameson Tudorancea, Aidan Hossain, and Oliver Hossain; and one brother, Theron E. Gunn.
In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by one brother, JC Gunn; sister, Annie R. Crane; and his grandparents, John Daniel Gunn, Floy Cunningham, John M. Millwood, and Annie Odom.
A celebration of George's life will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, October 3, 2025, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 201 S. Broadway, Greenville, Ohio 45331. Burial will follow at Ansonia Cemetery.
Guests may visit with George's family on Thursday, October 2, 2025, from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Tribute Funeral Homes, 1000 N. Broadway, Greenville, Ohio 45331.
