George Hallock, 71, of New Haven, Vermont, passed away on March 24, 2026.

Born on August 28, 1954, in New Haven, he was the son of Kenneth and Marcella Hallock and lived most of his life in the same small corner of Addison County.

In his younger years, George worked on Hallock Dairy Farms, feeding calves and milking cows. Over time, he became known less for any one profession than for his ability to figure things out—taking things apart, fixing what he could, and making do with what was at hand. He and a friend invented a landscaping device that sifted large rocks from compost. He spent many hours tinkering with machines and, in later years, building detailed model cars at his own pace.

George lived much of his adult life with significant physical pain from ongoing spinal deterioration, a condition that shaped the course of his days. His life was not an easy one, but it was a real one, marked by endurance and by the complicated ties of family.

He found steady comfort in small, tangible things. He kept a large aloe plant for decades, tending it carefully and passing along shoots to others. He loved his family. He loved animals and kept many over the years, including his beloved Mustang, Rocket, a goat named Ninny, and the dogs that moved through the household. He maintained a quirky, one-sided relationship with the family cats, tolerating them on his own terms.

George enjoyed watching Jeopardy!, Price Is Right, and basketball, and had a particular fondness for baked goods, especially muffins.

He is survived by his daughter, Danielle Hemingway, who cared for him for the past 17 years, and her mother Luanne Doxter-Hallock, who helped with his care in the last three years; his brother Bruce Hallock and Bruce’s wife Hillary Hallock, his stepsons, Christopher, Michael, Robert Cormier, and their mother Karen Cormier; and his grandsons, Joseph, Devan, and Brayden Hemingway.

He was predeceased by his parents, Kenneth and Marcella Hallock, his brother Kevin Hallock, and his son, George Hallock II.
