George Hoeffert Obituary

Published by Legacy on Nov. 10, 2025.
George John Hoeffert III, 78, of Houston, Texas, passed away peacefully on November 1, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on September 4, 1947, John lived a life defined by curiosity, creativity, and quiet strength. He loved music and often played his guitar, filling the room with songs that reflected his easygoing nature. Exceptionally intelligent and quick witted, he had a gift for understanding how things worked and never stopped learning. He also enjoyed playing poker with friends - more for the laughs and good company than the cards.
He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps and was honored for his bravery and valor during the Vietnam War.
To his daughters, he was more than a father - he was a steady hand, a problem-solver, and a source of endless knowledge. John could fix almost anything, tell a story that made you laugh on the hardest of days, and was the one everyone turned to for sound advice and practical wisdom.
John is survived by his daughters, Tina Erdman and husband James, and Danielle Clay; their mother, Chiquita Taylor; five grandchildren - Chelsey, Brooke, Dallas, Alyssa, and Avery; and five great-grandchildren - Blakely, Madilynn, Everett, Rylan, and Alani. He is also survived by his sisters, Diana Tidwell and Daphne Dolezal, along with a vast extended family, and dear friends.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to all who surrounded John with love, and to the VA, hospice staff, and caregivers for their compassion and care during his final days.
John will be remembered for a heart that quietly gave without needing recognition, and for his unwavering love for his family.
A military honors ceremony will be held at Houston National Cemetery on Thursday, November 13, 2025 at 10:30 am. Attendees will need to be in line at the cemetery no later than 10:00 am. No late arrivals.
