George Howard Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Lakeside Memory Gardens on May 27, 2025.
George Omar Howard, age 96, passed away peacefully on May 16, 2025, in Altoona, Florida. Born at home in Grantsville, West Virginia, George lived a life marked by faith, service, and love.
A U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, he earned his degree from Glenville State College and completed postgraduate studies at Columbia University. George was a lifelong educator, teaching at the college and middle school levels in West Virginia and New Jersey. He met and married fellow teacher Emily Ann Davis in 1973, and together they shared a love of travel, the arts, and their church communities.
George was deeply committed to his Christian faith, serving in Presbyterian churches in Fort Myers, Clermont, and Eustis, Florida. He had a lifelong love of singing, especially in church choirs, and brought joy and inspiration to many through his voice and kind spirit. He and longtime companion Brenda Adams shared meaningful years together, including a cherished trip to the Holy Land where they were baptized in the Jordan River.
He is preceded in death by his wife Emily, parents Carl and Callie, sister Grace Stalnaker, and brother Tom Howard. He is survived by his sister Eloise Bower, nieces Becky Archer, Linda Staley Caroline Edwards, nephew Bob Bower, many grand-nieces and nephews, and Brenda Adams and her family.
George's life was a testament to faiths love, and service. He will be deeply missed.
"l have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. "
- 2 Timothy 4:7
