George David Hughes, age 74, of Lancaster, Ohio, passed away on October 9th, 2025, at the Fairhope Hospice Pickering House. Born on September 3, 1951, George was the son of Robert and Norma Hughes. He graduated from Bloom-Carroll in 1970 and worked at Anchor Hocking for 41 years.
George married the love of his life, Candy, in 1974. George was a hardworking man who always had a story about Anchor Hocking. He spent years at the bowling alley, loved his family, and being a part of the church.
He is survived by his wife Candy Hughes; daughter, Melissa (Brandon) Chuvalas; son, Chris Hughes; grandson, Keegan Chuvalas; sisters, Joyce (Rusty) Stevens and Cindy (John) Winegardner; brother, Doug (Desiree) Hughes; brother-in-law, Brad Forrest; mother-in-law, Leona Retzer and her sister, Bea (Emerson) Rarick; siblings-in-law, Sharon Retzer, Jimmy Retzer, Carla Retzer, Vickey Retzer, and Mark (Matt) Retzer. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends from many aspects of his life. George was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Norma; sisters, Gerry Forrest and Barbara Hughes; brother Randy Hughes, and special nephew, Milton Roe.
Friends and family may visit on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, from 6-8 pm at the Fairfield Christian Church, 1965 N. Columbus Street, Lancaster, OH 43130. A funeral service for George will be held on Thursday, October 16, 2025, at 11:00 am at the church. Burial will follow at Floral Hills Memory Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to be made in George’s memory to Fairfield Christian Academy, 1965 N. Columbus Street, Lancaster, OH 43130, or Fairhope Hospice, 282 Sells Road, Lancaster, OH.
