Jake "Joe" Jacobs (October 18,1947 - July 11, 2025)
Jake Jacobs, 77, of San Diego, California, left this earth peacefully on July 11, 2025, with his family by side.
Jake was born in Ticonderoga, NY to Joseph and Mary Lou Jacobs on October 18, 1947. He grew up the oldest of four siblings in Witherbee, NY located in the Adirondack Mountains of upstate New York. His lifelong love of the natural world came from growing up in the beautiful Adirondacks. After graduating Moriah Central High School in 1966, Jake married Patricia Consadine and joined the United States Navy in 1968. Jake served his country with honor as a Corpsman during the Vietnam War where he was known as "Doc" caring for his fellow service members both at sea and at the Naval Hospital Balboa. His service in the Navy brought him to California where he eventually started his family and settled in San Diego County for the rest of his life. After his military service he became a Respiratory Therapist in Escondido, CA. He ultimately used his talents as a self-taught chef for restaurants throughout San Diego which included the "world famous" Big Kitchen in Golden Hills for almost 20 years.
Jake was dedicated to staying connected with his friends and family; always wanting to share a recent dining experience, or a new movie he went to see, or to just check-in to see how his loved ones were feeling that day. Jake truly enjoyed a good laugh and had a one-of-a-kind sense of humor as he never took himself too seriously. He had a passion for discovering and learning new things. He loved cooking, science fiction, music, movies, and gardening, but most of all he treasured sharing good food and experiences with friends and family.
Jake was a loving and generous Dad & grandfather to his children Jay and Jenny and his grandchildren Ian and Sydney. He loved them so much and adored them with immense pride. He always wanted the best for them; encouraging them to be themselves, to practice acceptance and compassion, and to never stop learning. The greatest joy in his life next to being a dad was being a grandfather, forever known to his grandkids as "Bompie".
He will be greatly missed.
Jake was preceded in death by his beloved parents Joe and Mary Lou Jacobs, his sisters Alice Ann Jacobs and Bobbie Rae Timmerman, his daughter-in-law Natasha Jacobs, and the love of his life, Ted Bolicki.
Jake is survived by his son Jay Jacobs, his daughter Jennifer Kelley and son in law Chris, his grandchildren Ian and Sydney Kelley, brother Tom and sister-in-law Pam Jacobs, nieces Melissa Robinson (Ryan) and Nikki Cawley (Kevin), and Cousin Carol Ann Baker (Mike) Patty Bundy (Mike), Mary Lee Krieger. Jake is remembered and missed by many more extended
family and close friends.
A Celebration of Life for Jake will be on October 18th, 1:00pm at St. Paul's Cathedral in Balboa Park, San Diego. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the San Diego Humane Society or to the Veterans Village of San Diego.
