Joseph "Joe" Henry Sobon, 80, of El Cajon, California, passed away on October 16, 2025. Born on New Year's Day of 1945 in Chicago, Illinois, to Henry ("Hank") and Kathryn Sobon.
Joe was known for his wit, tenacity, and sense of humor. From his early years through his final days, Joe brought generosity and quiet kindness to his family, friends, and neighbors.
A proud San Diego State University Alum and longtime El Cajon resident, Joe lived a life balancing hard work, simple joys, and the satisfaction of being right (which he usually was, according to him). Joe was a pharmaceutical salesman for over three decades and then owned his own diabetes test strips business for another 15+ years, when he finally retired. He loved golfing, fishing, baseball, movies, and spending time with family and friends.
Whether lending a hand to a neighbor, visiting a friend, or doing yardwork, he made each moment meaningful. He had a story for every occasion - most true, some questionable, all entertaining.
Joe is survived by his daughter, Kellye (Trevor); his granddaughters, Hayley and Gillian; and his great-granddaughters, Annalisa and Taralynn. Joe is also survived by his sister, Bunny Folkner, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews, whom he loved dearly. He was preceded in death by his beloved sister, Kay Keagy, who passed away in 2023. Joe leaves a legacy of love and strength. May he rest in peace, knowing his impact endures.
Family and friends will celebrate Joe's life at First United Methodist Church in Mission Valley on Friday, November 21, at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, we encourage you to do something kind for someone who might need a little help... feel free to tell them Joe sent you.
