Roman K Sobon

Roman K. Sobon was born in Amersham, Buckinghamshire England, and became an American by way of the great state of New Jersey. He was a graduate of Irvington High School and Rutgers University. He spoke English and Polish, and celebrated Wigilia every year.

Roman taught English and Literature. He was generous with red pen corrections, but ultimately wanted you to succeed. He co-founded his own company with his wife. Roman had a gift for Latin, classic literature, witty references, and rock and roll. He loved a road trip, a good meal, a great cigar, the shore, rolling down the windows when Bruce tells you to, and to enjoy the finer things in life, even as he made sure to teach his kids that the finer things were not always the most expensive ones, and you get to choose what you enjoy. He could sometimes have a soft spot for sentimentality and the occasional grand gesture.

Roman served as a Master Mason and 33rd degree Scottish Rite Mason, and that included charity and community work. He had a beautiful singing voice and a great laugh that made anyone want to join in. He emceed swim meets for the Belvidere Barracudas, was talented at golf, and becoming a winning golf coach for Notre Dame High School in East Stroudsburg. Roman was uncertain about his kids serving in the military but once they joined, he became their biggest cheerleader.

Roman is survived by his wife, Monica, his daughters Alyson and Ashley, his son-in law, Dan, and multiple beloved family dogs and cats. A Celebration of Life is being planned for a later date yet to be determined.
