Robert Rossi Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Struve and Laporte Funeral Chapel on Jan. 3, 2026.
Robert Michael Rossi was born on January 12, 1956, to Emilio and Rosa Rossi. On December 27, 2025, he passed peacefully of natural causes, leaving behind a family forever changed by his absence. A beloved father, son, brother, uncle, and friend, Robert's passing has left an immeasurable void and many broken hearts.
Robert lived life with passion, heart, and determination, and in everything he did, he made his family proud. A natural athlete, he excelled in every sport he touched-baseball, basketball, track, and especially football. While attending Palma, Robert made history as a senior when he rushed for an incredible 324 yards in the Morello Prep game, a record that stood for 52 years. This past football season, Robert proudly returned to the field to introduce himself and congratulate the athlete who finally broke his record.
Truly a "Jack of All Trades," Robert embraced learning and hard work throughout his life. During summers he worked at Rossi Masonry, and during college he mastered woodworking and tended bar. After graduating from San Diego State University with a teaching credential, he returned home to Salinas to become a successful business owner. He opened Video World, The Yellow Submarine Music Shoppe, an antique store, and a DJ business, each reflecting his entrepreneurial spirit and love for people. Answering his calling to teach, Robert served as both a classroom and music teacher in the Salinas City and Santa Rita School Districts. His deep compassion for students with special challenges led him to continue his work with the Monterey County Office of Education, where his dedication made a lasting impact. Robert also coached middle school and high school track, basketball, and football. He was proud to be a "dad coach," working with his three sons' teams. Recently, Robert found joy in collecting little "treasures" and attending flea markets and fairs to share them with others. It wasn't just the selling that delighted him, but the camaraderie-the conversations, laughter, and connections he made with everyone he met.
Music was one of Robert's greatest joys. While in college, he studied music and became very proficient in both piano and guitar. He was a gifted songwriter, with a special talent for writing fun and creative children's music. He loved playing music with his three boys. In recent years, he found renewed joy with his ukulele group at the Senior Citizen Center, where he served not only as a musician, but also as a mentor and leader. His presence there will be deeply missed.
Though his passing was unexpected, we find comfort in believing that Robert is now part of a heavenly band and making heavenly music for eternity, while always keeping a watchful eye over Nico, Michael, and Anthony.
Robert was preceded in death by his father, Emilio Rossi, and his grandparents, James and Maria Orlando. He is survived by his beloved sons, Nicolas, Michael, and Anthony, their mother and his forever dear friend Paula, his mother Rosa; his siblings Tony (Susie), Connie (Danny), Frank (Carmen), Jimmy (Margie), and Barbara (Gus); his nieces Kristi (Hank), Gina (Mario), Nicole, Michelle, Franca (Eric); his nephews Tim (Gina), Matthew (Heather), Emilio, Drew, and Brayden; his grandnieces Jolie, Danielle, Celeste, Tesla, and Tia; his grandnephews Everett and Ashton; and his cherished friend, Ida.
Robert leaves behind a family forever marked by his love, laughter, and music. He will be missed each and every day.
