George Jones, 56, of Ellenburg Depot, NY passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, March 5, 2025 while wintering in Wilmington, NC.
Born October 15, 1968 in Plattsburgh, NY he was the son of Mary (Cayea) and Cornelius Jones.
As the self-proclaimed mayor of Chazy Lake, he kept a watchful eye on everyone around him as well as gave any local weatherman or news agency a run for their money. Thriving as the center of attention, George lived life to the fullest and shared his adventures with everyone on social media. He thoroughly enjoyed spending the last several winters in Wilmington, NC and had a special fondness for his friends that he met at the HT bar.
George was a graduate of Northern Adirondack Central School. He then was employed by the Village of Dannemora Department of Public Works for 12 years before transferring to NYS Department of Transportation until he was medically retired in 2011. He loved traveling and was able to visit 46 states, ATV riding, attending concerts, and was quite well known for his bonfires.
George is survived by his son, Ty; his partner of 35 years, Victoria Siskavich; his brother and sister-in-law, William and Pamela Jones; his sister, Ann Jones, and her partner, Jim Vincent; his special self-adopted sister/niece and her husband, Melissa and Daniel Lamountain; his nephews, Patrick Rabideau, Cody Jones, and Logan Jones; four great nieces and one great-great niece.
He was predeceased by his parents.
He also leaves behind an entourage of close friends often caught up in some of his shenanigans and a pack of dogs that were mostly rescues with a sad tale that pulled on his heartstrings.
There are no calling hours.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12 p.m. on Friday, March 14 at St. Joseph's Church, Dannemora.
George lived his life on his terms, kept everyone around him on their toes, and at a later date a memorial ATV ride will be planned in his honor.
