Patrick Cayea Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Chateaugay Funeral Home on Dec. 19, 2025.
Patrick G. Cayea, 74, of Lyon Mountain passed away Wednesday, December 17, 2025 at his home surrounded by loved ones and under the compassionate care of hospice.

Born on December 25, 1950 in Plattsburgh, he was the son of Clifford James and Freida Anna (Davis) Cayea.

Patrick was an avid outdoorsman who found deep enjoyment in hunting, fishing and trapping. He cherished time spent playing cards with family and friends and had a great appreciation for good cinema. These simple but meaningful pleasures were an important part of his life and the memories shared with those closest to him.

Over the course of his working life, Patrick held many jobs in service to the region he loved. He worked for the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, where he was notable the last man stationed at the Lyon Mountain Fire Tower. He later worked as a civil servant for the Clinton County Department of Public Works, working in the solid waste district at various transfer stations and at the central landfill. His work reflected a strong sense of duty and commitment to public service.

He is survived by his only son and daughter-in-law, Daniel Patrick and Nicole Ann (Eichler) Cayea; siblings, Jeanne-Anne Cayea, Donald "Joe" Cayea and his life partner, Lorelee LaBombard, Anthony "Tony" Cayea and his wife, Alice and Mary-Louise Murtha and her husband, Timothy; as well as many nieces and nephews and very close friends.

He was predeceased by his parents; siblings, Roger, John "Pug", Fred "Peanut", Clifford "Bill", and Floyd Cayea, Jeannette Miller, Lucille "Lou" Ducharme and Arlene Johnson.

Patrick's life was marked by devotion to family, quiet strength and perseverance. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Calling hours will be held at St. Bernard's Church, Lyon Mountain on Saturday, December 27, 2025 from 10 a.m. to noon.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated immediately following at noon.

Burial will be held in St. Bernard's Cemetery, Lyon Mountain in the spring.
