Mr. George R. Kelloway, Sr., of Epsom, NH and formerly longtime resident of Melrose, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, April 20, 2018, at age 90. George was born on April 17, 1928 in Winchester, one of ten children of the late William and Gertrude (Parsons) Kelloway. Raised in Wakefield, George enlisted in the United States Navy at age 17 before graduating from high school. He served his country proudly during WWII as an Engineman, 3rd Class. Following his honorable discharge, George was married to Gladys Stone and they lived in Everett and Malden before settling in Melrose to raise a family of three. George worked for MIT/Draper Labs as a Master Electrician for many years. With great dedication to his trade, expertise, and a strong work ethic, George assisted in the design and installation of classified "clean rooms." He loved his working career but retired at age 51 due to health complications. With a strong desire to continue working and with his Melrose ties, George found a position as a volunteer at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital. George again dedicated himself to his job, volunteering for over 30 years at the hospital, and generously donating nearly 6,000 hours of his time and presence. George was a genuine, sociable, and humble man who found great joy in developing new and old relationships. With his easy nature and good sense of humor, George was well loved and served as the unofficial Mayor wherever he was. Whether in Melrose at Mother's Pizza, or in Epsom, NH at the local coffee shop, friends and neighbors gathered around George for good conversation and a laugh. For years, he made a positive impact in Melrose as a hospital volunteer and later in Epsom, NH as he organized and completed the restoration of the town's veteran memorial. George had a love for Cape Cod, especially Buzzard's Bay where his family had roots and he enjoyed fly fishing. While in Melrose, George served the community as an Alderman for the City of Melrose. George also enjoyed watching the Red Sox and had an interest in the CB radio. In his free time, he organized local meet ups and cookouts to socialize with other CB enthusiasts for several years. George will be remembered as a gentle, kind soul. His love for family lives on through the next generations who now have George as the family angel. George will be missed but his memory will carry on. The Kelloway family wishes to express their deep gratitude for the care and compassion received from the nurses and caregivers of the Concord Regional VNA. George was the beloved husband of the late Gladys B. (Stone) Kelloway with whom he shared 63 years of marriage. Devoted father of Ron "Blue" Kelloway and his wife Ruth of Exeter, NH, Laura P. Kelloway and her companion Jack McLaughlin of Abington, and David S. Kelloway, Sr. and his wife Mary of Epsom, NH. Dear brother of Gertrude Alley of Melrose, and the late Ralph, Ernest, Alva, Matthew, Mildred, Mary, William and Walter. Cherished grandfather of 11 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to gather in honor of George's life for a Graveside Service at Wyoming Cemetery, 205 Sylvan St., Melrose on Thursday, April 26, at 10am. Military honors will be presented by the US Navy. Gifts in George's memory may be made to Concord Regional VNA, 30 Pillsbury St., Concord, NH 03301 or the American Legion Post #112, 1044 Short Falls Rd., Epsom NH 03234.

My deepest sympathy to the family. I have known George for years. The 1st time I met him was at a CB gathering years ago, his handle Deacon, after the cb era I met up with him when he volunteered at MWH where I work. Him and Glady were wonderful, happy couple I will miss them.

You were our great volunteer, our friend and coworker. You impacted so many
people, always smiling, joking around, so kind and caring. Your girls in admitting will miss you terribly, but we will always remember you and Glady. We had so many great times and so much fun. Thanks for all you did for us in admitting, but most of all, for being a wonderful, special friend and person.

So sorry for your loss to the whole Kelloway family.

To my father-in-law George,

I am very saddened at the passing of a wonderful man George.
WE had many discussions on many topics such as sports, politics, and everyday issues that came up.
I loved playing cribbage with George even though he let me beat him all the time.
I am going to miss our discussions on CNN. He used to call me MR. CNN.

R.I.P. George....you will be sorely missed.

with Love Jack

I met George through his phone calls with his cousin, my Mom. We continued calls, Facebook and IMs. I wish I had known him better as we have common experiences. He and Mom can now chat face to face. Love to family and friends through these difficult times.

Ronnie, David and Laura,

I'm sorry to hear about the passing of Uncle George. He was such a wonderful person, always checking up on everyone in the family through face book.
I have so many good memories, 4th of July cookouts at my Dad's house, time spent down at Cape Cod with Nanny. It is so sad to hear of another passing of another Kelloway. Nanny and Papa had 10 wonderful children and now the youngest has gone to Heaven.
You will be in my thoughts and prayers as you go through this difficult time.

My heart is broke in so many pieces. Dad you'll never will know how much I loved you. You'll always will have a piece of my heart and I will have that empty spot. I am so glade that Jack and I was able to take him to Buzzards Bay for a week down to the cottages that his father had bulit. I know he would of wanted to stay another week. Jack would drive him over to the Canal every day. He loved the Canal. I loved when he would come down for a couple of weeks numerous times. I'm going to miss our phone calls every morning and every night. Sometimes it would be 4,5 times a day. Every morning i keep looking at the clock thinking Dad should be calling and no call. Dad i love you for ever and always. Say hello to Mom I'm sure she's giving you hell about now. Tell her I do love her. I will be waiting for your signs letting me your at peace. I love you for ever Dad.

Your Loving Daughter

On behalf of the entire Draper Quarter Century Club we want to express our deepest sympathies, thoughts, and prayers to the Kelloway family on George's passing. George certainly lived a full and vibrant life and gave back to his community wherever that may have been. What a great example.

George and my Dad both love coffee SOO much that my dad almost my birth because he and George decided to stop and get a cup of coffee as my mom was being wheeled into the Hospital!!... George would tell me this story every time I would see him - i will miss that...

He joined us for Friday night Dinners a few times while he was still in Melrose and he had become a member of our family.

We will miss his porch visits, his coffee breaks and his phone calls just as we sat down to dinner :) we loved George.
