George King Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by George Lopes Funeral Home - Mattapan from Feb. 4 to Feb. 14, 2026.
He was born George Edward King, March 23, 1936, in Bluffton, GA to the late Eddie B King and the late Ruby (Toney) Javierto.

At 7 years old he and his siblings Walter(deceased) and Betty went to Live with his maternal grandmother Gensie Moseley. By age 12 he and his siblings were back living with their mother in Atlanta, GA. From a young age George learned the value of working to help take care of his family. He even quit school when studying and working became too much to handle.

He worked jobs ranging from delivering groceries and ice; to working as a delivery driver for a paper company. The owner of the company trusted George so much that he would often give George his car keys and tell him to go to his house, pick up his daughter and take her to school. After his brother Walter graduated high school in Blakely, their mother who had migrated to Boston (like many blacks did for better opportunities in 1950's) requested they and their sister join her. When they arrived in Boston in 1956 Walter took George to look up an old friend from high school who had left for Boston before him. When they arrived at her mother's house she jumped around her old friend's neck and he introduced her to his older brother who would later become his first wife, the late Vera Lavornia (Lee) King. They dated for about 3 years and in 1959 they were married at her mother's home by the late Rev R D Kelly of St John Missionary Baptist Church in Roxbury MA.

George and Lavornia had 2 children George Jr. and Sharon. After working jobs that he didn't find sufficient to raise a family he went to Raytheon in Waltham, MA and asked if they were hiring. He worked his way up from sweeping floors to becoming a sheet metal worker, then group leader for the mechanical engineering department. He retired from Raytheon after 42 years of faithful service in 2001. Shortly after retirement George and Betty were reunited with siblings they had only seen as small children when their father took them from their grandmother and brought them to Florida for a few weeks.

After buying the family home from his aunt, the late Elaine Morgan, they would split their residence between Dorchester, Massachusetts and Blakely, Georgia until his wife of 60 years passed in November 2019. George relocated permanently to Blakely in 2022. He met his current wife Deloris (Jones) King through family and shared many wonderful moments together with both his and her family and friends. Amidst his failing health they loved and supported each other until George was called home to be with The Lord on February 03. 2026 at 8:50pm. He transitioned with his wife by his side praying with him and comforting him with the Word of God. His last words were I love you, I can't stay, I'm tired. Tell my children and grandchildren I love them.

Acknowledgement for a special friend who was closer than a brother to him - Jimmy Davis (Barbara - George's cousin).

Preceeding him in death are his wife of 60 years Lavornia King; parents Eddie B. King and Ruby Javierto; brothers Walter King and Leon Bryant; Sister Myra Scott.
