With great sadness, the family of George Kosta (89), of East Haven, CT, announces his passing on May 19, 2025. George was born in Bridgeport, CT, in 1935. Loving husband of Vincenza Kosta, and father of Paul Kosta. He also leaves behind daughter-in-law, Ann Vasquez-Kosta, and grandson, Gregory Kosta.
George and Vincenza owned and operated, Fairfield Roofing, for over 35 years. He was known in the business community for his integrity, creative approach, and dedication to providing the highest quality service. A self-taught businessman with an instinct for maximizing efficiency, he adopted equipment from the airline baggage handling industry, enabling him to successfully compete with companies twice the size of his own. His work with the award-winning architect, Dimitri Bulazelle, was profiled in, Better Homes and Garden magazine.
He was active in the small business community of southern Connecticut. With an exceptionally cheerful and generous demeanor, he cultivated numerous friendships, a loyal customer base, and dedicated employees.
George had a deep appreciation for nature, a love of animals, and adventure. A 50-pound bag of cat food was part of the standard equipment on his truck. He helped organize and participated in activities to protect Shoreline birds and was an avid gardener. He enjoyed skimming across the water at 70 mph in turbo-charged racing boats and, as the years passed, spent countless hours walking along the shore with family and friends.
He pursued and achieved his American dream, and shared it with those fortunate enough to have known him.
Family and friends are invited to attend a "Celebration of Life" for George on Sunday, June 1st from 12:00 to 1:00 PM with a Memorial Service to follow AT 1:00 PM on the beach deck of George's Home, 28 Caroline Road, East Haven.
