George Lauretti Obituary

George B. Lauretti, owner of B&G Trailers of DeLand, went to be with our Lord and Savior on July 3, 2023, at home at the young age of 88. Resting at Allen-Summerhill Funeral Home in DeLand, visitation will take place 5-7 p.m. Thursday, July 20. A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday, July 21, in the funeral home chapel. Interment will take place in Hollywood Cemetery in Orange City.
George was born Nov. 23, 1934, in Cumberland, Rhode Island, son of Benedetto and Rosemond Bates Lauretti.
George was an Eagle Scout leader and was named "Outstanding Scout" of the Flaming Arrow Patrol in 1950.
After completing high school, he worked for his parents at their business Ben's Marine in Rhode Island.
At the age of 20, George spent 25 weeks at Fort Monmouth, New Jersey, earning a FID Radar RPM 77 certification. He enlisted in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, 1954-56, serving in Germany doing radar surveillance.
Returning home, George worked once again for the family business, learning more about boats, motors and trailers. Advertising for Ben's, he raced many boats in the New England waterways, especially on the Hudson.
George came to DeLand in 1978, and owned and operated a beach business in New Smyrna Beach. The next year, he started DeLand Yard Care, which soon grew into B&G Trailers in 1981. After 42 years, and still working till the present, I'd say George found his niche. He loved his work and loved helping his customers with their trailer needs.
George and Ellen married in 1989 and had a daughter, Katrina, a year later. They celebrated 34 years of marriage this July.
For many years, George loved taking his family boating on the St. Johns River and to the Glenn. He enjoyed going on fishing trips to Costa Rica, Belize, Mexico and New Orleans, compliments of Magic Tilt Trailers.
He took many trips with his family on cruises to the Bahamas and Mexico. A highlight was skiing in Colorado at age 66 (he had not been on skis for 36 years) and he didn't fall! But the best family trip was to Italy, going to Rome, Venice, Florence, Pompeii and Positano. He also spent summer vacations in Saint Johns, New Brunswick, Canada, where his wife, Ellen's, parents lived.
George was a lifetime member of AMVETS and a member of the American Legion Post in DeLand.
At 88, he was baptized in May and was a member of Praise Chapel DeLand. He also attended Bible study with Raymond Long.
In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his son, David. Surviving are his wife Ellen Jones Lauretti; his daughters, Katrina Lauretti, Gina Thompson and Lisa Hanlon (Jimmy), all of DeLand; grandchildren Amanda, Ashley, Alissa, Shaun and Justin; eight great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Gabriella, Emma, Parker, Oliver, Jayden, Declan and Logan; two sisters, Elaine Roy (Gerry) of Arizona and Linda Menard of Rhode Island as well as niece Cindy and nephew Jeffrey of Rhode Island; sister-in-law Peggy Love (Ralph), nephew Matthew and niece Laura, brother-in-law Andrew Jones, nephew Brandon and niece Victoria, all of Saint Johns.
Donations in memory of George may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
Rest in Peace my love, till we meet again.
I love you so much, and will miss you more than words can say.
Your loving wife, "Ellie."

I knew George many years ago, long before, and after he moved to Florida. He was a very kind, funny, and caring soul. I still speak of him to this day as he had made such an indelible impression on me. I had tried to reach out a few times in the last few years at B&G, but could never catch him in. He was a man always on the move. I know he will be missed, and my heart goes out to his family, and to all that knew him.

George was thought of as a man's man. I met his daughter Lisa over 20 years ago and she's my wife now;she loves her father very much. George was kind and respectful to me and to all who knew him at B&G Trailers. He had a very large family who will miss his smile, warmth, and knowledge;I depended on that these past five years that I worked for him. He was patient with me and taught me a lot about his business. I hope he is proud of me. May God bless him and hold him tight.
Thank you George for all of your kindness too. George was blessed to have Ellie, his wife, and Gina,Lisa, and Kate as his daughters. His son David passed away in 1993;he missed him so much. They all loved him dearly!
See you at another time George.

Your Son-in-Law,
Jimmy Hanlon
