GEORGE MAYER Obituary

MAYER--George R. Devoted husband, father, and community leader who built a life centered on family and adventure. The restaurateur, attorney, and Village Judge of Bronxville died peacefully at age 87. Born October 4, 1938, in The Bronx, George continued his family's century-old hospitality tradition opening Geordie's on Manhattan's Upper East Side in 1965. There he met Brenna Sheenan, whom he married in 1971. While running Geordie's, George attended law school at night, eventually serving 14 years as Village Judge of Bronxville and as President of the Westchester Magistrates Association. An avid athlete, George played rugby, served as Commodore of the NYAC Yacht Club, and skied until age 85. He co-founded the Bronxville Family Ski Trip, a beloved 20-year tradition bringing neighbors together from the American West to the Alps. George credited Brenna with supporting his remarkable journey. For 54 years, they were true partners. Survived by his wife Brenna; sons Michael (Josh) and Brian; niece Deborah Prieger; and sisters-in-law Kathleen and Patricia Sheenan. Mass: October 29th, 1:00pm, Church of the Magdalene, Pocantico Hills.
