George Miga Obituary

George Miga

Mar. 17, 1937 - Nov. 2, 2023

MUNSTER, IN - With heavy hearts, we say goodbye to our beloved Dad, George Miga, who peacefully passed away on November 2, 2023. Born on March 17, 1937, George led an inspiring and unforgettable life, cherished by many.

George leaves behind his daughters, Kristin (Dave) and Jennifer and his son, Tom (Karin). His legacy also continues through his grandchildren: Tyler (Allison), Morgan (Nick), Mason, Madison and Tannah. He is also survived by his former wife, Doree. George was predeceased by his parents, Mary and John Miga Jr., his brothers, Thomas and John Miga, and his sister, Elaine Jackson.

Those close to George will remember him as an affable and witty individual, always lighting up the room with his genuine kindness and charm. A social butterfly, George had a knack for thrifty living without compromising his friendly demeanor. Above all else, he was authentic, treating everyone with the same warmth and kindness.

A man of many talents, George was a master of communication, speech writing, and the power of persuasion. These skills contributed to his esteemed professional journey where he trained top-notch teams for major corporations.

George graduated in 1955 from East Chicago Washington and worked hard in his adult life to later earn his Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from the University of Houston.

In addition, to his long career in public and government affairs, George initially began his work life as a flight instructor and charter pilot. From there he went into the newspaper business becoming a photographer and reporter for The Hammond Times. After 25 years of service as Director of Public and Government Affairs at Standard Oil/ Amoco Corporation, George became a free lance crisis management consultant for many companies including Chevron, Valspar and US Steel, to name a few. He was then asked to become an adjunct communications professor for the MBA and Leadership Development programs at Indiana University Northwest.

In addition to his professional accomplishments, George was a self-published author of two fiction novels, reflecting his creative spirit and powerful storytelling ability.

The viewing for George is set to take place on November 11 2023, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. CST with a short service led by our cousin Father David Smith from 3:00 to 3:30 p.m. at the KISH FUNERAL HOME, 10000 Calumet Avenue, Munster, IN. As we celebrate George's life, we will remember his lessons, his laughter, and his love. His memory will continue to guide and inspire us all.

The family would like to express their gratitude to all those who have shown their love and support during this challenging time. As we say goodbye to George, we will miss his physical presence greatly but we are reminded to embrace his teachings, his wisdom, and his unwavering optimism in everyday life.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to an organization of your choice or to one of the many community service organizations George participated in or held close to his heart: The American Red Cross, The Michael J. Fox Foundation, The Parkinson's Foundation, The American Legion, The Boys and Girls Club of Northwest Indiana.

I had not heard that George passed. My deepest condolences. I always enjoyed talking with George. We crossed paths many times at IUN; My office was only two doors from his. He was very knowledgeable, kind, and supportive. May he rest in peace!
